Hunting season is here, be careful when you drive

You can see deer all the time in the Lake Country area, but it's the time of year with hunting season and pending rutting season upon us when you need to be more mindful.

If you drive around Lake Sinclair for any length of time no doubt in my mind you will see deer on the side of the road.  We have a huge population of them in these parts.  Turn your back and they will eat your flowers and garden in heartbeat. And there are a HUGE number of traffic accidents involving deer. In a recent study done between the years 2005 and 2012 more than 45,000 traffic accidents involved deer.  As recent as 2011 8 of those accidents involved the loss of human life. They actually use traffic accidents to  map the movement of deer in Georgia.  And if you will check the map you can know what time of what month to be the MOST careful in your county.

Three years ago one deer related fatality in Georgia was my 34 year old cousin Ryan Williams.  So yes, I am an advocate of population control through responsible hunting.

DEER SEASON
