The additional pressure when your client also calls you Mommy

Today on my 51st Birthday another special event happened. Today my daughter purchased her first house. I honestly can't remember how long ago she even began the house search. I think it was last fall. There was a contract, an inspection, and then the termination. When you're the broker with two decades of experience and you let your own child make an offer on the wrong house it makes you think about every other young first time home buyer in an entirely new light.

And then there were those late night phone calls where she said, "this isn't a broker question, it's a mommy question".  It's not often that buyers are asking me to look at paint samples and carpet samples. I had to turn on the Mommy role sometimes and the broker role sometimes.

It was a wonderful, stressful and rewarding experience. Even after 24 years in this business having my "little girl" as a client was a learning experience. It was also amazing to give her the keys to her new house today. Now I have to get busy in the Mommy role again with helping her get moved and settled.

After the closing there was my birthday dinner where we also celebrated  Abigail's closing. Even a past client, that was another sweet and adorable first time home buyer and has become friends with my daughter came to dinner with us. There was great food and lots of laughter.

Then we came home and there was birthday cake from Ryal's Bakery.

Yes, it really was an amazing day.

A while ago I had a call from a buyer from about 11 years ago. That's a guess, because I didn't look it up. When I heard his name I did remember that he purchased from Shirley on N. Steel Bridge. He had a question. Off the top of my head I didn… more
