Yesterday my Donald was off work. He did laundry, but he did leave an ink pen in his uniform shirt pocket. Ooops. (Thank goodness he didn't put MY clothes in with his uniforms) I tried lots of things before I found "the" thing I knew would work. We spayed with Oxi Clean laundry spray. Nope, Ink still there. Tried alchohol (rubbing not drinking), nope ink still there. Dawn, no luck, Tide... didn't touch it. So I kept digging under my bathroom vanity until I found "IT". It is hairspray. I don't use hairspray. I bet this tiny little can I found is at least 20 years old. But I sprayed, I scrubbed with a brush and I let it soak about ten minutes and sprayed again then laundred as usual and the uniform shirt is saved. Hairspray isn't just a good movie and broadway production, "IT" is the getter out of all things ink in fabric.
And I thought for anyone with a droid I would also share a FREE download that I love. You see this year will be year 20 of seeing a tornado up close and personal when I was driving toward it to get home and saw it hit the ground in my neighborhood. So I'm a bit weather paranoid, so I was too excited when I found Radar Now. Sorry iphone and blackberry users it's only for droids, but I know you must have something similar. But if you have an Android go and download radar now. In bad weather you can see the local to where your phone is radar at one touch of a button. Cool huh? So now when those thunder
And at our annual office gathering this year one of my agents brought "something" it was delish. I haven't made it yet, but I got her to share the recipe (which she of course altered from the original because that's what we southern women do).
- 2 cups of whipping cream
- 4 tablespoons of sugar (more if you like sweeter)
- 15 oreos crushed
- 4 bannanas (sliced)
- 8 oz can of crushed pineapple
- 1 cup of sliced fresh strawberries
- 2 tablespoons of chocolate syrup
- 2 tablespoons of choped pecans, toasted
Whip the cream with sugar until peaks form
Fill a large glass bowl with half the cookie crumbs, cover with half the bananas, half the strawberries, half the pineapple and half the whipped cream. Repeat and drizzle with chocolate syrup and scatter with toasted pecan pieces.
It is wonderful.
I call it Nancy's Something. Because she just kept saying she was bringing deviled eggs and "something" It's easy, fast and sure to please.

I believe hairspray is a tried and true remedy for ink stains. I'm sure I've seen this in Eloise's Helpful Hints or books of that nature. Good news that you got it clean.
Love this post. All kinds of handy information. I would have never thought in 100 years that hairspray would get ink out of a shirt! Now I know. I don't have a droid, but even though we get some tornado warnings here in San Antonio, they rarely materialize...(now I'm gonna find some wood to knock on)!
And now that I have diabetes after reading your recipe....JK, gonna have to try that! It sounds wonderful! AR is for learnin!
Jill- I tried all the other stuff while my husband was un-successfully searching for hairspray. Since I don't use it is a big wow we still had that old can.
Brenda- I think I'll pop out to the supermarket tomorrow and get the stuff to make it. And I suppose you "could" have more fruit and less whipped cream LOL.
Never knew this. Thanks for the tip. I discovered the other day that Dawn will remove grease from clothes. Makes sense since it's slogan talks about fighting tough grease stains. I used it on a favorite sweatshirt that I'd made the mistake of cooking bacon in like two months ago and it took it right out!
This makes me wonder...are you on Pinterest Tammy?
Margie- I am, but just for a couple of weeks now and I haven't explored very much there yet. On of my agents' wife was the one who introduced me at a party we were at together. I can't wait to have the time to explore it. I use dawn on the collar of my husband's uniforms in the summer when he has to be outside and sweats so much. He can only "turn in" and get new uniforms once a year and there's a limit on the number they can turn in at once too. So we have to be super careful and keeping them up.
Don't wear plastic flip-flops in the rain. You'll hydroplane, fall and possibly break your hip, if not severely damage yourself, plus, mess up that new pedicure. If you've got to walk out of the nail salon in something other than your own footwear, go barefoot.
My cat is wondering why I am laughing so hard Elizabeth. And I don't mean to laugh, but I got the visual and it made me laugh. Been a while since I had a pedicure too. Need to schedule that.
Love the site! It's full of all kinds of home remedies, amazing recipes, and "why didn't I think of that?"s. I've cooked probably three or four recipes I've gotten from there and they've all been fabulous.
