This was the day I met Glen. Glen was a little boy puppy and along with his 8 sister pups and his mom he had been dropped off at the Putnam County Animal Shelter by someone who could no longer care for their pets. My Donald had lived with me, Abigail and our three girl cats for years and decided that it was fate when there was one boy in the litter. They wouldn't let us bring him home, so my dear sweet Donald went ever single day the shelter was open to visit and bond with his puppy.
Me? Well I was a cat lady. I had always had cats and loved cats and thought I would NOT like a dog. But when we brought little sweet Glen home I kinda liked him. After all who can resist a sweet little puppy. Even my cat couldn't resist a sweet little baby puppy.
It wasn't long (less than a month from the time that Glen came home) that we had a family emergency and I was Glen's only care giver for about a week. Well.... it's kind of like this.... Glen has been Mama's little puppy ever since that week. I'd fallen in love with his little puppy breath and his big puppy paws. I spoiled him. I fed him from my hand when he was missing his "dad" and let him sleep with my at night, took him to work with me every day and snuggled for evening tv time on the sofa.
So even if you don't think you can love a puppy, just give it a try. There are so many cats and dogs at our local Putnam County Animal Shelter that need your love. I promise you won't regret it and you will certainly get more love back from then than you give. We've since that time also rescued Laney. Glen needed a sister after all. You can see lots of animals that need your care and love on their facebook page too.
yes, those are legs under Glen. He was sitting in my daughter's lap.

Hi Tammy, Not surprised to hear that puppy made its way into your heart. Seems like the cats are okay with the dogs too from your photos. Rescuing animals is the best way to bring a pet into one's home.
Gloria
Nancy- oh he IS a lap dog. LOL We try to keep him being gentle.
Gloria- all the cats in our house are rescue too. They just seem to find us. And well... the dogs know their place when it comes to who rules the roost at our house... it's the cats for sure.
It really is the best! :)
Tammy, what a sweet, heart-warming story! Glen sure has grown, and I'm sure your love for him and "little sister" Laney continues to grow as well! :)
I just rescued another dog last week, Tammy. I haven't had a chance to write about her yet. She and Billy are getting along really, really well. You're so right....there are so many cats and dogs that need our help.
Tammy, you are a storyteller and poet - I love your posts, you take us on the journey with you. That last picture of Glen (and your daughter's legs) is priceless!
Such a great post Tammy. I love hearing stories like this. Both of our pups are rescues and I couldn't love them more. Thanks for sharing. :)
Tammy, great post for the contest. I never thought I'd want a dog in the house...but our chocolate lab is a house dog and he is definitely part of the family.
Laura- I agree
Sonja- well as it turns out landy is his "older" little sister. She was about 8 months old when we rescued her.
Chris- then you're gonna love this month's contest.
Karen- yes Glen and Abigail have had some pricesless moments. There was a while when he wanted to eat her hair. Those made for some great photos too.
Jared- Thought of you and your pups when posted this.
Rebecca- ours live in the house too. The fenced backyard is just for playtime.
I hate to break it to Glen, but he might not be a lap dog anymore. Wow, I'll bet he can EAT.
Tammy, don't know which is cuter, the animals or the people loving the animals. Bless them and YOU!!!!
Suzanne- suprsingly little, about 5 cups a day, but he has to have his lap time every day.
Janice- Thank you, the people are the blessed ones.... our fur babies are a blessing.
Hi Tammy,
Great post and pictures. I can tell your entire family loves animals. I especially love the picture of Glen on your daughter's lap. Obviously he does not know how big he is! So funny!! Thanks for sharing such a happy post.
