Real estate agents: go see The Martian

I considered doing this movie review for my advice to newbies post, but I decided that even oldies and lenders, and attorneys and well every human could use the bit of advice sprinkled through this movie.

The first words in the official trailer: "I guarantee you that at some point everything is going to go south on you".

As a real estate broker with 24 years of experience that seems like the absolute truth for this business. Things will go wrong with buyers, sellers, loans, banks, attorneys, title, the other agent, the house, the inspectors, the stagers and even pest inspections.  This is a complex business and things go south.

So what can we all take from Astronaut Mark Watney, botanist, pirate,  and colonist?  Not matter the complexity or how daunting a problem seems we should approach it rationally, thoughtfully and one step to solving it at a time. Every problem has a solution. Those who throw up their hands and wait on others to solve the problem die in this business. Those who stop, think, analyze the problem and then apply the solution are the ones who are successful in this business.

It's a great movie and I suggest seeing it.  Not sure if seeing it in 3D was impactful, the story was way better than the visuals to me.

But the lesson to work to save the deal, your business is really wonderful.  Put this on your must see list. And if you don't get to the theater to see it, make sure to red box rent or buy the DVD.  It really has a great life lesson.

Tammy - I will try to see this movie.  How true that anything that can go wrong will eventually go wrong.

Good morning Tammy. Saw the movie last night, it was great! You are so right, he was determined to live, against all odds. Many of us have felt like him at times, but most of the time it was not a matter of life and dead, but it might have felt that way.

I think I've had too many moments mirroring this incident in my own life to want to relive them, but what the hey, it's on my list of movies to see and I imagine I will. I watched a movie recently about a guy who was buried alive and another who was driving, the whole movie was about him driving, and both of those were fascinating.

Thanks for the recommendation on the movie.

When it come to life and transactions...I never give up. When things happen, I dig in and work harder. I do get things done.
