Why did I get a tax bill on the Lake Sinclair house I already sold?

It's that time of year when I start getting this call.  In Putnam County if you owned the house on January 1st, you will get the tax bill at whatever address they have on file. If that address was your property the perhaps the new owners will get it, but if it was a second home you will likely be getting the tax bill at your primary home.

You can mail it to me, scan it and email it to me and I will make sure the new owner gets it.  If you live in Baldwin or Putnam and don't have your tax bill yet they have been mailed and you can call the tax commissioner's office

In Putnam County the number is 706-485-5441 and in

Baldwin County it's 478-445-4813

 Links to their websites are

Putnam County tax Commissioner

Baldwin County tax Commissioner

If you purchased or sold you home with Lane Realty I'll be happy to assist you in getting a copy if you have a problem getting one. But I am sure the nice folks at the tax commissioners office will be happy to mail you a copy if you give them a call as well.

Endre Barath, Jr. one of the counties I work is much better about accepting an address change even if they won't change the name on the bill.

Sheri Sperry - MCNE I got one in the mail today and in 5 minutes of opening it I had scanned it and sent to the other agent and the buyer.

Karen Hellier I really do love what I do.

We have so few "second homes" in our Market that I didn't even consider someone getting a tax bill on a home they sold.  This is great information for your local market.

Evelyn Johnston it is about 65% of what we sell.  Used to be 80%, but we've become a retirement destination and eventually those folks seem to be moving to assisted living or estates are being sold.

This is a good post. I always mention this to home sellers at closing.

Gita Bantwal me too, but I realize that people are so excited at closing they might not remember everything they need to.

This is very helpful for homeowners, and your links should provide all the answers. Nicely done!

Our property tax bills will stat arriving next week. I get many calls each year asking about what to do with the bills when they have sold the properties. This is a a good topic to blog about.
